Lake Norman
is named after former Duke Power president
Norman Cocke. Lake Norman is a man made lake
primarily constructed for energy production and
flood control of the Catawba River Valley.
Located just north of Charlotte, Lake Norman has
been dubbed "Our Inland Sea” with a surface area
of more than 32,475 acres and 520 miles of
shoreline.
The lake
was filled up in the 60's. It was originally the
playground for campers and fishermen. With the
completion of I-77 between Statesville and
Charlotte Lake Norman has rapidly opened up to
vacation and holiday homes on the water. |
